Henry Emery and Andy Roberts are two of the leading consultants in the theoretical and practical application of ICAO requirements for Aviation English language testing and training.

Henry and Andy are teacher-trainers, working on aviation-specific teacher and rater training programmes for the ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements. They have taught English for specific purposes and plain English for aeronautical communication to pilots and air traffic controllers from around the world. They have extensive experience in materials development and language programme design and management in the aviation context.

Henry EmeryHenry Emery

In 2005, Henry joined the ICAO PRICE SG Linguistic Sub-Group to work on the ICAO Training Aid ‘Rated Speech Samples’. He continues to work in the area of standardisation in language assessment, and is planning to conduct research in applied linguistics in plain English for aviation in the near future. Along with Andy, he is co-author of Aviation English, an English language training course published by Macmillan. He is a Vice-President of ICAEA.



Andy RobertsAndy Roberts

Andy has 19 years experience teaching in both the private and state sector. He has worked as both DOS and ADOS for EFL companies and has a vast range of experience in producing classroom material and managing language programmes. Along with Henry, Andy is co-author of Aviation English, a English language training course published by Macmillan. He is a member of the board of ICAEA.

 


Terence GerightyTerence Gerighty

Andy and Henry are delighted to welcome to emery-roberts senior aviation English consultant, Dr Terence Gerighty.

Terence has managed ELT specialist courses for the Oil industry in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, for Gas and  PLG companies in Vietnam and  Indonesia, for the World Bank in Africa, for medicine at Shenyeng University in China, and above all, English for Aviation courses for pilots and air traffic controllers from  around the world. He has worked closely with Oxford Aviation Academy for many years. 

After several years with the British Council, he founded and managed ELT Banbury International, near Oxford, for 29 years.  Terence is a Vice-President and Treasurer of ICAEA, and is co-author of English for Aviation published by Oxford University Press.
