Teacher Training
emery-roberts teacher training courses develop the linguistic awareness and teaching skills needed to deliver effective and successful English language courses for pilots and air traffic controllers.
Our one week (five day) course for teachers includes:
- analysis of the ICAO language proficiency requirements
- the role plain English in aeronautical communication
- Examination of communicative language teaching methodology
- oral/aural skills development
- analysis of classroom, CBT and WBT courseware
Our extended two-week (ten day) course for teachers includes the areas above plus:
- learner profiles and needs analysis
- syllabus design
- materials development
- lesson observation, classroom practice and feedback
- language programme and quality management
Rater Training
Drawing on experience of working with the ICAO PRICE-SG language sub-group, and as aviation test designers and examiners, the emery-roberts rater training course develops skills in aviation language assessment and raises awareness of the key issues in language testing.
The one week (five day) course includes a thorough analyses the ICAO testing requirements and the ICAO assessment criteria, gives practical guidance on the use and application of the rating scale and holistic descriptors with reference to established tests, and introduces systems of quality control in language rating.
Trainees are assessed and certified in rating for benchmark and licensing purposes according to:
- Level of language proficiency as demonstrated in certificates from recognized English language examinations.
- Successful rating of speech samples
Communication Workshops
emery-roberts communication workshops are for professional pilots and air traffic controllers of all language levels working towards compliance with the ICAO language proficiency requirements.
The objective of the workshops is to develop confidence in the use of plain English in work-related situations with emphasis on effective communication in each of the six ICAO language profiles.
Our flexible communication workshops are adapted according to client need. They may form the core of English language training at an organization or may be used as an additional component of an existing language training programme.
